SkipTheDishes started in Winnipeg, and for many Canadian couriers it's the first delivery app they try. Like every other platform, Skip treats couriers as independent contractors, so taxes are your job.
According to CloudTax's guide for Skip couriers, Skip provides a T4A slip and an Annual Income Summary. The summary includes your income, tips and kilometres driven.
Like other platforms, Skip also reports courier earnings to the CRA under the digital platform reporting rules.
Claim fuel, insurance, maintenance, repairs, licence fees and car washes, multiplied by your business-use percentage. The CRA expects a record of total kilometres and business kilometres. A bike used for deliveries is business equipment. You can claim its cost through capital cost allowance, prorated for personal use, plus repairs, tires, lights, locks and batteries.
Everyday clothing isn't deductible, even if you only wear it to deliver.
Skip couriers are delivery workers, so the $30,000 small-supplier limit applies. Register once your taxable revenue from all apps passes $30,000 in one quarter or across four consecutive quarters.
MyGigLedger keeps your Skip payouts with your other apps, tracks every business kilometre (not only the ones on active orders) and files your expenses under the right T2125 lines.
